This is a special issue of the Rondeli Russian Military Digest dedicated to the Russo-Ukrainian War, composed on the basis of numerous open sources.

Russian forces continued their efforts to envelop Kyiv from the west, after having failed in their attempted attack on the Ukrainian capital from the northwestern side. No new Russian advance was reported west of Kyiv in the in the morning and afternoon of 1 March, and Ukrainian forces kept fighting the Russians there.

Russian forces advancing on Kyiv from the east came close to the town of Brovary. No new Russian advance was apparent in the area of Chernihiv.

In Sumy Oblast, Ukrainians retained control over Sumy, Okhtyrka and Lebedyn, while Russians controlled most of the countryside around these cities.

No apparent progress was made by the Russians in the Kharkiv area, despite heavy fighting taking place there.

Russians advanced in the area north of Luhansk on 1 March, reaching Starobilsk.

They continued their efforts to advance on Mariupol with heavy fighting taking place northeast and north of the city. To the west of Mariupol, where Russians have been trying to advance in an effort to surround this city, Ukrainians counterattacked in the town of Tokmak.

Southeast Ukraine

On 1 March, Russian troops advanced into the city of Kherson. Street fighting took place in the city, part of which remained under Ukrainian control. Other Russian troops advanced in the northern direction from Kherson, having reached areas northeast of Mykolaiv.
