Author: David Batashvili, Research Fellow at the Rondeli Foundation

This is a special issue of the Rondeli Russian Military Digest dedicated to the Russo-Ukrainian War, composed on the basis of numerous open sources.

Territorial changes were rather limited during the reported period despite heavy fighting in many areas. Russians continued to concentrate forces for their planned major push in Donbas and the territories around it.

Donbas Area

Fierce fighting continued on the whole Donbas front as well as to the south of Izyum. Street battles went on in Rubizhne, Popasna and Mar’inka. Russians were not able to advance despite their attacks on many portions of the frontline.

Along with their ongoing attacks south of Izyum, Russians kept concentrating new forces in this area, in apparent preparation for their planned major attack. They were also gathering new forces on the southern flank of the Donbas front to the west of Volnovakha.

Siege of Mariupol

Russians achieved limited gains within Mariupol – in the port area in the southwestern end of the city, and in the city center.

Kharkiv Area

No notable territorial changes occurred in this area. Russians were concentrating additional forces to the east of Kharkiv around Kupyansk and Shevchenkove.

Zaporizhzhia Area

No territorial changes were reported in this area. Similar to the flanks of the Donbas front, and the area east of Kharkiv, Russians were also gathering additional forces in a number of spots to the southeast of the city of Zaporizhzhia, likely in preparation for the major push planned in the near future.

Black Sea Area

The two sides exchanged attacks and counterattacks in Kherson Oblast. Likely no major territorial changes occurred during the reported period.
