Visit of the Members of Danish Foreign Policy Society

2007 / 04 / 24

On April 24, 2007 the members of the Danish Foreign Policy Society visited the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, as a part of their visit to Georgia and the South Caucasus.

The 37 members of the society, who begun their trip in Baku, Azerbaijan, will spend five days in Georgia before travelling to Yerevan, Armenia as a part of their two-week study tour of the South Caucasus. With a focus on Georgia, the purpose of the visit is to offer participants the opportunity to become further acquainted with the political situation in the three countries and to learn more about the relations among them whilst exploring those with neighboring countries as well as with the European Union and NATO.

Organized in the framework of a roundtable meeting, the participants of the study tour asked questions, shared their opinions and engaged in discussion on topics such as Georgia-Russia relations, the Government's foreign policy objectives of EU and NATO membership, secessionist movements in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Georgia's European heritage and its rightful place within the European family of nations, during the two-hour session.

The participants of the study tour will remain in Georgia until 30 April and visit Telavi and Akhalkalaki, amongst other locations, and meet with various government officials and members of civil society, the media and academia.
