South Caucasus Security Forum 2014

On November 18, 2014, the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and the Center for European and North Atlantic Affairs (CENAA) hosted the second South Caucasus security forum: “New Regional Security Environment and Global Changes”.  The forum was organized with the financial support from the International Visegrad Fund and Slovakaid and lasted for two days.

During the meeting, leading practitioners and analysts addressed a range of security challenges facing Eastern Partnership countries with the focus on the South Caucasus, as well as other regional and global affairs.

Keynote speeches were delivered by David Jalaghania, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; Ambassador Tomas Valasek, Permanent representative of the Slovak Republic to NATO;  General Vladimer Chachibaia, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces;  General Pavel Macko, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces; Ivlian Haindrava, Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia; Karla Wursterova, director of the Visegrad Fund;  Robert Ondrejcak, Director of CENAA.

The panelists included high level government officials representing the Visegrád Countries: Peter Burian, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Petr Drulák, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and István Mikola, State Secretary for Security Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

The forum included up to 30 speakers and moderators from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, US, China, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

The annual conference has already become the main forum for decision makers, academics, think-tank representatives, experts and media representatives from South Caucasus and Visegrád countries, as well as for international organizations involved in the region, to discuss the most challenging issues of the broader region.
